Efficiency and respect for the environment
Numerous intermodal trains ensure regular daily connections between Interporto Padova and the most important Italian and European ports and terminals.
The main connections in Italy concern the ports of Genoa, La Spezia, Livorno Trieste, Bari (combined land transport), Gioia Tauro, and Taranto.
Towards central and northern Europe there are active connections for semi-trailers, containers and swap bodies mainly to Cologne, Geleen, Rotterdam (via Melzo/Busto Arsizio), and Duisburg

Green energy with photovoltaic system
On the roofs on the warehouses there is one of the largest roof-mounted photovoltaic systems in Italy
with a capacity of 13MWp. This system has an annual production of energy equal to the consumption of 5K households.
Moreover, Interporto Padova has also made an innovative 700KW photovoltaic system with storage system dedicated to terminal activities, which allows power supply of gantry cranes on a continuous cycle.
Equipment
Interporto Padova is the most advanced land terminal in Italy. It has a dedicated rail and terminal infrastructure area of over 520K sqm, all directly managed.
The overall area is made of the big terminal owned by Interporto Padova, (300K sqm), the Mercitalia Logistics terminal (70K sqm) also managed by Interporto Padova, and the Italian railways freight station with 21 tracks serving the railway activities.
The terminal includes a modern automated gate system.
Automated recognition of the loading units is provided for the half-tracks, thanks to 5 gate-ins and 3 gate-outs. In addition, two rail portals ensure the automatic recognition of incoming and outgoing wagons for all loading and unloading tracks.
The intermodal area has a total of 18 loading and unloading tracks. 10 of them are up to 750m long and 8 are served by 6 electrically-operated cranes (RMG) suitable for handling all types of loading units (storage height up to 4th position).
Next to the track bundle served by the gantry cranes, and along its entire length, there is a parking area of approximately 40K sqm, dedicated specifically to semi-trailers to be loaded/unloaded by intermodal trains, with 300 spaces of 18m in length.
The technical equipment also includes 8 reach stackers, 7 empty bogies (up to 7th position), 3 port trailers, 2 locotractors, and 3 VGM (Verified Gross Mass) weighbridges.
The terminal also has a large customs area (AEO-certified) that also allows the storage of goods.
Interporto Padova has developed an advanced management software called TOS – Terminal Operation System – capable of managing all services in the terminal area.
There is a Planning Room and a ROS (Remote Operation System) Room dedicated to real-time management of operations.
