The president of Interporto Padova, Sergio Gelain, was appointed vice-president of UIR (Unione Interporti Riuniti) during the latest assembly of the association, which represents freight villages of national interest. In the same assembly, Giancarlo Cangiano, president of ISE Servizi, the company of Interporto Sud Europa, was also appointed vice-president.
With this appointment, UIR entrusts one of the association’s two vice-presidencies to a professional appreciated for his skills and experience at the helm of the Padua freight village, one of Italy’s leading ones. “I would like to thank the president Matteo Gasparato and the members for entrusting me with this task,” comments the new vice-president Sergio Gelain, “at a very important time for our sector and for Italian logistics. Just in the past few weeks, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport published the call for tenders for the financing of interventions to complete the national network of freight villages. Thanks to this announcement, Italian road-rail intermodality will be able to develop further; we need this, not only for environmental reasons, but also to make the national logistics system more efficient, which, as we saw during the COVID emergency, is a strategic infrastructure for the country. My commitment will be in this direction, with special attention also to the interventions that will be carried out in the south of Italy’.
