The first elements of the new RMG (electric gantry crane), which will be assembled and installed by the middle of this year, have arrived in the past few days. This will make a total of five cranes in operation at the Intermodal Terminal. With the commissioning of the new crane, also supplied by the Austrian company Kuenz and identical to the four already in operation, the process of automating container handling in strategic areas of the terminal will also begin. It is the first Italian project of this kind and one of the first in Europe among non-maritime interport terminals. The fifth crane will be installed astride the terminal’s southernmost beam of tracks.
