18 November 2021

The president of Interporto Padova spa Franco Pasqualetti was appointed vice-president of UIR Unione Interporti Riuniti this morning during the association’s board meeting held in Rome.

“I would like to thank the board of UIR and its president Matteo Gasparato for this appointment,’ says Franco Pasqualetti, ‘which is a great honour for me but also a great responsibility. Freight villages are a fundamental element of the logistics chain, particularly for the strengthening of the green and blue economy. Already today, the intermodal activities carried out by Italian freight villages have made it possible to avoid the emission of more than 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 in 2020 alone, with a saving of around EUR 500 million in costs that do not fall on the community. We can and must play a key role in the economic recovery of our country, which will necessarily be very attentive to sustainability issues, environmental of course, but also economic. This is why UIR will fully play its role as the representative of land-based logistics infrastructures to all the institutional stakeholders, so that all the potential and opportunities that we make available to our economy will be exploited”.

UIR President Matteo Gasparato underlines: “I am honoured as President of UIR to be joined by the President of Interporto Padova Spa Franco Pasqualetti, a man of recognised professionalism and for whom I have a personal esteem. I am convinced that his experience, both in business and in the public sector, can bring added value to our association in order to achieve ever greater results for the Italian interport system. His appointment also represents an opportunity to strengthen the already good relations between the Padua interport and the Quadrante Europa Interport of Verona’.
